Since my appointment as IEEE Press VTS Liaison last summer, I have worked with IEEE Press to put programs into place that will attract future authors. Among these efforts is working with IEEE Press and others to acquire book content.
We will be running a call for author advertisement in both VTS Mobile World and IEEE Vehicular Technology Magazine. I extend my personal thanks to EiC Abbas Jamalipour and VTS Mobile World for generously providing space for the ad, which will run regularly for the next several months.
IEEE Press is interested in companies and other organizations that may have authors on their staff. Some of the companies we work with currently are:
These are but some companies identified as potential sources, there are many more yet to be uncovered. The trick, of course, is to find authors who are willing and have the time to write books. That is turning out to be a rather formidable task!
One of the more promising areas is what we are calling short books, which have between 80 and 120 pages. In this day and age, this is much more attractive to potential authors. Technology can change so quickly, often becoming outdated before a full volume can be written and published.
In closing, I would ask our readers to think about other sources for books. Perhaps, in your educational journey, you have come across a professor who you might think would be interested in publishing a book. As well, think about individuals, either friends, or contemporaries at your own place of business.
Finding book authors is a challenging task in today’s fast-paced, digital world. We are all busy and overly committed. Bringing knowledge to the front for all to see is a cooperative effort, in this new world where every company is their own publisher.
Please feel free to contact me with any ideas or if you are interested in publishing. I look forward to working with any and all possibilities!
