Harshal Shah is a Senior Product Manager in Voice and Audio Technology at General Motors, with over 13 years of experience spanning across the automotive, consumer electronics, and communication technology industries. His work focuses on end-to-end development and deployment of advanced voice processing systems in vehicles, including hands-free calling, in-car communication, speech enhancement, and voice assistant certification. Prior to GM, Harshal held engineering roles at Denso Ten America, Microsoft, and Nokia, where he played critical roles in developing acoustic test labs, tuning voice interfaces, and launching first-of-their-kind products like Nokia’s inaugural tablet and Microsoft’s Surface Studio. He has been a proactive contributor to industry standards and testing, performing ITU-T based voice quality evaluations (P.1110, P.1100), supporting Apple CarPlay certifications, and developing Google's ART voice assistant readiness test capabilities for GM. Harshal is deeply engaged in the research and academic community as well. He has peer-reviewed over 85 conference and journal papers, including for IEEE, AES, and SAE. He serves as a handling editor for the SAE International Journal. His research and professional interests include voice and speech processing, embedded audio systems, conversational AI, echo cancellation, neural beamforming, vehicle audio UX, and standards development for automotive voice interfaces.
