(Aven) Wee Kiat New (Member, IEEE) received the B.I.T. degree in Data Communications and Networking from Multimedia University, Malaysia, the M.Eng.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Malaya, and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He was a Visiting Researcher with Lancaster University, U.K., and the University of Cyprus. He also served as a Research Fellow with the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, University College London (UCL), U.K., where he is currently a Visiting Research Fellow. He is currently a Short-Range Wireless Researcher with Huawei, Singapore, focusing on short-range wireless standards and emerging wireless technologies. His research interests include information theory, optimization, stochastic processes, machine learning, and their applications in emerging areas of communications. He serves as a Vice-Chair of the IEEE ComSoc WTC SIG on Fluid Antenna Systems, and is a Founding Member of the IEEE ComSoc TCCN SIG on Fluid Antenna Systems. He has received multiple recognitions, including the 2025 IEEE SPS Malaysia Best Journal Paper Award, 2024 IEEE ISTT Best Paper Award, 2024 IEEE MAPE Best Student Paper Award, 2023 IEEE SPS Malaysia Best Ph.D. Thesis Award, 2021 IEEE Malaysia ComSoc/VTS Best Paper Award, and the IEEE Malaysia AP/MTT/EMC Best Paper Awards in 2020, 2021, and 2022. He serves as the General Co-Chair for the IEEE GLOBECOM 2025 Workshop on Fluid Antenna Systems and the IEEE VTC 2025-Spring Workshop on Fluid Antenna Systems for 6G. He is an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology and the IEEE Transactions on Communications, and a Guest Editor for the IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications and the IEEE Journal on Selected Topics in Signal Processing. He was a Tutorial Speaker at IEEE ICC 2025 and IEEE MICC 2023, and previously served as the TPC Co-Chair for the IEEE ICC 2024 Workshop on Fluid Antenna Systems for 6G.
