In 1997, Zhigang Liu graduated from Southwest Jiaotong University with a major in railway electrification and a second major in computer application. In 2003, he received a doctorate degree in power system and its automation. He was promoted to associate professor in 2003, and professor in 2006. He was selected as a doctoral supervisor in 2008. He was a visiting scholar at the University of Illinois at Chicago in the United States from 2009 to 2010, and a senior visiting scholar at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands in November 2017. He serves as IET Fellow, Associate Editors of IEEE Transactions Neural Networks and Learning Systems, IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement and IEEE Access, Senior member of IEEE/CSEE/CES/CIE; China Electrotechnical Society, China Automation Society, China Deputy secretary-general, standing committee or member of several specialized committees such as the Railway Society; editorial board member of journals such as " ACTA AUTOMATICA SINICA", "Journal of Southwest Jiaotong University", "Power System Protection and Control". He won the Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, Sichuan Youth Science and Technology Award, Special Prize of China Railway Society, Second Prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of Ministry of Education, First Prize of Sichuan Higher Education Teaching Achievement, National Hundred Excellent Doctoral Disseration Nominations, Outstanding Associate Editor of IEEE TIM (2019, 2020), China Electric Power Excellent Technologist Award, Mao Yisheng Railway Science and Technology Award, Zhan Tianyou Special Fund Award, etc. He was selected as a leader in science and technology innovation in the National Ten Thousand Talents Program, enjoying special government allowances from the State Council, young and middle-aged innovation leaders in the Ministry of Science and Technology, young and middle-aged innovation leaders in the Ministry of Transport, New Century Excellent Talents Program of the Ministry of Education, academic and technical leaders in Sichuan Province, Sichuan Provincial Youth Technological Innovation Team Leaders, Sichuan Provincial Outstanding Young Subject Leaders Training Program. He is the host of the Sichuan Youth Science and Technology Innovation Research Team and the Sichuan Provincial University Scientific Research Innovation Team. He presided over key projects/general projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, sub-projects of the National Key R&D Program, sub-projects of the National 863 Program, sub-projects of the National Science and Technology Support Program, Ministry of Education Fok Yingdong Young Teacher Fund, Key Projects of the Science and Technology Research and Development Program of the Ministry of Railways, Sichuan Province There are more than 20 national, provincial and ministerial projects such as the Outstanding Youth Fund. He published more than 200 papers, of which 52 first author/corresponding author published IEEE Transactions papers, 2 English monographs, 1 Chinese monograph, 56 authorized invention patents, and 4 software copyrights. By 2020, 14 doctoral students and 75 master students have been trained, including 43 national scholarships, 6 "outstanding graduate students in Sichuan Province", and 44 outstanding postgraduate dissertations from Southwest Jiaotong University. His research fields include: (1) High-speed railway EMU-traction network electrical relationship; (2) High-speed railway pantograph-catenary status detection and evaluation; (3) The power quality of the power system under the grid-connected new energy; (4) Urban rail transit vehicle control and diagnosis network, etc.
