Title: Beyond 5G: Leveraging AI and Digital Twin for Automated Network Management

Abstract:
In this presentation, we first introduce emerging use cases and their potential requirements in beyond 5G (B5G) networks. Then, we illustrate a vision of holistic network virtualization, featuring network slicing and digital twins, and pervasive network intelligence, highlighting artificial intelligence (AI) for networking and networking for AI. Last, a case study on digital twin and AI-based proactive network resource management is presented, which aims to support multi-tier computing while adapting to spatiotemporal network dynamics.

Presented by Dr. Jie Gao
Assistant Professor of the School of Information Technology
Carleton University, Ottawa, ON, Canada

Bio: Jie Gao received his Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada in 2014. After graduation, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow with Toronto Metropolitan University from 2017 to 2019, a research associate with the University of Waterloo from 2019 to 2020, and an assistant professor with Marquette University, Milwaukee, USA, from 2020 to 2022. Dr. Gao is currently an assistant professor at the School of Information Technology, Carleton University, Ottawa, ON. His research interests include machine learning for communications and networking, cloud and multi-access edge computing, Internet of Things (IoT) and industrial IoT solutions, and B5G/6G networks in general. Dr. Gao is a senior member of IEEE, the IEEE Sensors Council Representative for VTS, the lead associate editor of the Vehicular Technology section in IEEE Access, an editor of Springer PPNA, and an editor of the IEEE OJ-COMS. He has served as a co-chair of several symposia, tracks, or workshops at various IEEE conferences, including IEEE GLOBECOM, VTC, and INFOCOM.
