Phone Lin received the B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science and Information Engineering from National Chiao Tung University in 1996 and 2001, respectively. He is currently a Distinguished Professor with National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan. He holds appointments with the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, the Graduate Institute of Biomedical Electronics and Bioinformatics, the Internet of Things Research Center, College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and the Graduate Institute of Medical Device and Imaging, College of Medicine.
Dr. Lin’s research interests include mobile and wireless networking, Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications, the Internet of Things (IoT), the Internet of Cars (IoC), and data-driven anomaly detection and prediction. He was elevated to IEEE Fellow for his contributions to resource management and service development for mobile networks.
He has received numerous prestigious honors and awards, including the Outstanding Research Awards from Ministry of Science and Technology (2016) and National Science and Technology Council (2026) in Taiwan, as well as the IEEE Communications Society Asia-Pacific Best Young Researcher Award (2007). He served as Chair of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society Taipei Chapter from 2014 to 2015 and has been actively involved in professional service within IEEE. He currently serves on the editorial boards of leading journals, including IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology and IEEE Internet of Things Journal.
