Dr. Jorge Higuera Portilla received his Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Barcelona, Spain, in 2011. He also earned both his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Electronic Engineering from the Industrial University of Santander (UIS). Dr. Higuera has worked extensively as a researcher and proposal evaluator on various national and European projects, focusing on smart sensors, control systems, energy-efficient lighting devices, Visible Light Communications, interoperable wireless sensor networks (WSN), and embedded systems. From 2012 to 2017, he served as a postdoctoral researcher at the Lighting Group in the Catalonia Institute for Energy Research (IREC), Barcelona, Spain, where he specialized in interoperable IoT smart sensors and actuators for LED and OLED lighting systems. In 2018, he transitioned to the industry, focusing on automotive safety embedded systems. From 2019 to 2022, Dr. Higuera was awarded the Torres Quevedo Fellowship by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Industry, concentrating on novel spectral-tunable lighting technologies. Currently, his work is centered on developing next-generation EV battery charging technologies and automated software testing systems. His research interests include embedded systems, smart sensors, IoT, wireless communication protocols, and artificial intelligence technologies. Dr. Higuera has authored and co-authored numerous publications in scientific journals and has served as a Technical Program Committee (TPC) member and reviewer for several scientific journals, including the IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, IEEE Sensors Journal, and Sensors (MDPI).
