It is with great sadness that the family of Ha Hoang Nguyen announce his sudden passing on September 4, 2022 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada at the age of forty-nine. He is survived by wife Hanh (Hạnh) and three children, son Namca, daughter Nammi and son Namvinh; parents Tan and Tuong Nguyen; parents-in-law Xuyen and Chuy Nguyen; sister Hang Nguyen and family; and sister-in-law Huong Nguyen and family.

Born in 1973 in the picturesque Quang Ninh province, Vietnam, Ha spent most of his young childhood there until his family moved to Hanoi, Vietnam in the mid 1980s. Ha attended Hanoi-Amsterdam high school (class of 1990) and then Hanoi University of Technology (HUT). He received the Bachelor degree from HUT in 1995, and subsequently the Master degree from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand, in 1997, and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Manitoba, Canada, in 2001, all in electrical engineering. He joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Saskatchewan (UofS), Canada, in 2001, and became a full Professor in 2007.

Ha Nguyen is the author/co-author of three engineering books, and hundreds of technical papers in the broad areas of communications. He also holds six US patents of inventions in this field. Over the years, Prof. Nguyen has supervised 26 Ph.D, 20 M.Sc. students, and mentored 6 Post-doctoral Fellows. He was part of the team that defined and developed the Digital Signal Processing track at the UofS. He was a Senior Member of IEEE, Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada and Registered Member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan.

Ha was also a passionate sports fan. He started playing soccer in his early childhood and later on picked up table tennis, tennis, and golf. He instilled the strong passion for sports in his children. Namca was the champion of the Saskatchewan Province's power-lifting competition in 2019. Nammi has won several junior athletic competitions and is now playing soccer for the University of Ottawa. Namvinh is competing in 2022 National Soccer Championships U15 Cup.

Ha Nguyen was a caring son, a loving husband and a thoughtful and generous father. He was a kind person, who is well-liked by his friends, students and colleagues.
