An active researcher in wireless propagation and intelligent transportation, Prof. David Michelson leads both the Radio Science Lab and the AURORA Connected Vehicle Testbed at the University of British Columbia. He also serves as Chair of Vancouver Joint Chapter of the IEEE Vehicular Technology and Intelligent Transportation Societies as well as various other related roles with ITS Canada and the Transportation Association of Canada.



An active member of the standards community, he serves as: 1) Chair of IEEE Standards Association Working Group P2982 which is developing Recommended Practices for the Verification of Millimetre-Wave Channel Sounders, 2) Chair of the VT/MRSC Mobile Radio Standards Committee, and 3) Chair of the URSI-ITU Inter-Union Working Group, as well as other related roles with IEEE AP-S, IEEE SPS, and the Canadian Standards Association.



As general co-chair of IEEE VTS 2014-Fall in Vancouver, Prof. Michelson introduced many new elements into VTS Conferences including a greatly expanded industry program which continues to this day. For his efforts, he was recognized with a VTS Conference Leadership Award.



A long-time member of the IEEE History Community, Prof, Michelson serves as VTS Historian and is preparing a history of VTS and related materials for the 75th anniversary in 2024. He also serves as chair of the IEEE History Coordination Committee which seeks to strengthen collaboration and sharing of history resources across the IEEE community.
