Dr. Haijun Chen specializes in functional safety and safety of the intended functionality (SOTIF) for autonomous and electric vehicles. As a core functional safety developer at Volkswagen AG, he has led and contributed to the safety architecture design, mechanism development, and safety validation of the MEB platform’s electric drivetrain systems across all ID. series models. His work has played a key role in ensuring the safety of globally deployed electric vehicles. Dr. Chen is the author of a forthcoming technical book on automotive functional safety and SOTIF, and a contributing author to the national higher education textbook System Safety Technologies for Intelligent and Connected Vehicles, published by China Machine Press in 2025.
