Shunqiao Sun is an Associate Professor (effective Aug. 2026) in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Alabama. He received his Ph.D. from Rutgers University. Prior to joining academia, he spent three years in the automotive radar industry at Aptiv. His research interests include millimeter-wave and 4D imaging radar signal processing, MIMO and sparse array design, physics-informed machine learning for radar, integrated sensing and communication (ISAC), and autonomous systems perception. He is the recipient of the NSF CAREER Award (2024) and serves as Chair of the IEEE Signal Processing Society Autonomous Systems Initiative (2026–2027). He is an elected member of the IEEE Sensor Array and Multichannel Technical Committee (2024–2026) and the IEEE SPS Integrated Sensing and Communication Technical Working Group (2025–2027). He received the 2016 IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society Robert T. Hill Best Dissertation Award for his dissertation "MIMO Radar with Sparse Sensing". He is also lead editor of the book Radar Machine Learning for Autonomous Vehicles (Artech House, 2026).
