Boon-Chong Seet received his Ph.D. degree from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in 2005. Upon graduation, he joined the National University of Singapore as a Research Fellow under the Singapore-Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Alliance Program. Since 2007, he has been with Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand, where he has progressed through the ranks to full professorship, and currently heads the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
His research activities have evolved over the years, but they generally fall under the fields of info-communication technologies (ICT) with a focus on emerging communication, sensing, and computing technologies for smart systems.
From vehicular communications, wireless sensor networks, and ambient intelligence in the earlier days; to smart grids, 5G, RFID; and more recently antennas, metasurfaces, and underwater communications; for smart systems spanning application domains of telecommunications, power, logistics, healthcare, etc., through his active involvement in many inter-disciplinary projects over the years.
He co-founded the VTS New Zealand North Chapter where he had served as Vice-Chair and presently as Chair. In 2024, in recognizing the Chapter’s active outreach and event initiatives, he was invited to share the success and good practices in establishing a vibrant IEEE Chapter with EXCOM members of the IEEE New Zealand North Section.
He is a co-recipient of several paper awards, including Best Papers from IEEE MTTW and IEEE ICSIP conferences. He has served on the editorial boards of several Q1/Q2 journals, and as guest editor of special issues in avenues such as IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine and IEEE Open Journal of Antennas and Propagation.
