The VT Traction Power Systems standards committee was established with the mission of serving the rail and transit industry through developing new standards, recommended practices, and guides.

The committee also coordinates with other organizations such as American Public Transportation Association (APTA) and American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) and within IEEE; providing up-to-date information on professional activities of interest; and soliciting recommendations, ideas and suggestions that would improve the industry practices.
