Ching-Ming Lai (Senior Member, IEEE) received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the National Tsing Hua University, Hsinchu, Taiwan, in 2010. From 2009 to 2012, he was a Senior Research and Development Engineer with Lite-On Technology Corporation, Taiwan. From 2014 to 2019, he was a Faculty Member with the Department of Vehicle Engineering, National Taipei University of Technology (Taipei Tech), Taipei, Taiwan. Since 2019, he has been with the Department of Electrical Engineering, National Chung Hsing University (NCHU), Taichung, Taiwan. He is currently the Professor and the Director of the Intelligent Electric Vehicle and Green Energy Center, NCHU. From February to August 2023, he was a Research Professor with Kobe University, Kobe, Japan. His research interests include electric vehicles (EVs), power electronics, green energy technologies, and intelligent transportation. To cultivate students’ abilities, Dr. Lai led the teams to win the Best Demonstration Award (First Prize) at the IEEE Global Student Wireless Power Competition in 2024.
Dr. Lai was the recipient of the 2008 Young Author’s Award for Practical Application from the Society of Instrument and Control Engineers (SICE), Japan, the Best Paper Award at the 2013 IEEE International Conference on Power Electronics and Drive Systems (PEDS), the Technical Award Paper of 2024 IEEE International Conference on Power Electronics Systems and Applications (PESA), the Dr. Shechtman Youth Researcher Award from Taipei Tech (2018), the Outstanding Youth Electrical Engineer Award from the Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering (2018), the Outstanding Education Achievement Award from SAE-Taipei (2019), the Outstanding Youth Control Engineer Award from the Chinese Automatic Control Society (2019), the Outstanding Youth Engineer Award from the Chinese Institute of Engineers-Taichung Chapter (2020), the Ta-You Wu Memorial Award from National Science and Technology Council, R.O.C (2023), the Outstanding Young Persons from Taiwan Association of Systems Science and Engineering (2024), and the Outstanding Engineering Professor from Chinese Institute of Engineers-Taichung Chapter (2024). In addition, according to Elsevier, he was listed in the World’s Top 2% of Scientists (Field: Energy), since 2021.
Dr. Lai was the TPC Vice Chair of IEEE ECCE-ASIA 2025, General Chair of IEEE RASSE-2024, the Finance Chair of IEEE ICSSE-2022, the Co-Chair of IEEE IFEEC-2021, the Tutorial Chair of IEEE IFEEC-2021, IEEEWiPDA-2019, and IEEE IFEEC-2015. He has been serving as an Editor for the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON VEHICULAR TECHNOLOGY, since 2017, and an Associate Editor for IEEE Access, since 2021. He is Fellow of IET and Fellow of the Australian Institute of Energy. Dr. Lai is a Distinguished Lecturer (DL) of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society.
