In early 2025, the IEEE OJVT Editorial Board collaborated with the IEEE Research Team to conduct a survey asking for opinions on publication from members of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (VTS). The following are the summarized findings from the recently completed survey:

Results

  • Seven out of ten members said they published an article (in journals/transactions, conference proceedings, magazine papers, etc.) with any publisher, while three out of ten had not.
  • Those who had not published articles were asked their reason(s) why. The top reason mentioned for not publishing an article was not having the time, followed by the publication process taking too long, and not having any interest.
  • When asked about the number of articles published in a typical year by publication type, one publication per year was the answer selected most often overall (including articles in journals/transactions, or any other publications such as conference proceedings, etc.) and for the two publication types: publishing in journals/transactions only, and publishing in conference proceedings or other publications (not including journals/transactions).
  • Seven out of ten said they published articles as a part of a conference proceeding, but did not submit them to journals/transactions, while three out of ten did not.
  • A majority, two out of three, said they would consider publishing with IEEE Open Journal of Vehicular Technology (OJVT), one out of ten said they would not consider publishing with OJVT, and just under a quarter said they didn’t know.
