Zhi Liu received his Ph.D. from Informatics in National Institute of Informatics, Japan in 2014. He is currently an associate professor with tenure at The University of Electro-Communications, Japan

His research interests mainly include multimedia communications, edge computing, and cyber-physical systems. His research results have been published in more than 300 top-tier IEEE/ACM journals and conference proceedings. Dr. Liu has received numerous awards, including the IPSJ/IEEE Computer Society Young Computer Researcher Award, the IEEE Andrew P. Sage Best Transactions Paper Award, and Best Paper Awards from several IEEE conferences

Dr. Liu currently serves, or has previously served, as an Associate Editor for several leading journals, including IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, IEEE Network, IEEE Wireless Communications, IEEE Transactions on Network Science and Engineering (where he received the Exemplary Editor Award), IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology, and the IEEE Internet of Things Journal. He has also served as a Guest Editor for IEEE Wireless Communications and IEEE Vehicular

Technology Magazine. In addition, he currently serves or has served in various leadership roles for major international conferences, including Area Chair for ACM Multimedia 2024/2025/2026, Area Chair and Senior Area Chair for IEEE ICME 2023/2024/2025, Co-Chair of IEEE GLOBECOM 2023, Track Co-Chair of IEEE VTC, and TPC Co-Chair of the IEEE INFOCOM 2023 Workshop NG-OPERA.

He currently serves as the Secretary of the IEEE ComSoc Communication Software and Multimedia Technical Committee, and the Vice Chair of the IEEE IoT Community Multimedia IoT Working Group. He is an IEEE senior member.
